SLM Solutions has launched a new competition to inspire artists, designers and engineers to design with metal 3D printing in mind. Its “Print the Future” competition – launched online last Friday – has asked people to submit and upload their 3D designs, one of which will be built by one of the company’s future-forward systems. SLM Solutions sees this as an opportunity to connect a community of designers to compete at expert level of design for AM. Complex geometry? Submit it! Hard to resolve (…)
On April 19, the US subsidiary Arburg Inc. signed a contract with the Würth Additive Group. This is one of the world’s leading companies in the field of "supply chain efficiency" and is now a partner for the distribution of the Freeformer in the USA and Canada. This national agreement extends the reach of the Arburg Plastic Freeforming (APF) in this region into the general manufacturing market as well as to the oil & gas, heavy equipment and transportation industries. "Thanks to its (…)

As one of the first customers, OECHSLER, globally probably the largest volume manufacturers of 3D printed plastic components, has purchased the post processing system S1 from AM Solutions – 3D post processing technology. The automated S1 will assist the company to fulfill the stringent requirements for quality, repeatability of processing results, traceability and cost efficiency that must be met in the automotive industry. OECHSLER corporation, located in Ansbach, Germany, is a global (…)
From 21 to 23 May 2019, more than 400 exhibitors and around 7,000 trade visitors attended the Rapid + TCT, the leading trade fair for additive manufacturing in the USA. On the last day, Arburg was honoured with the People’s Choice Award. The German machine manufacturer from Lossburg presented itself in Detroit with a stand covering 150 square metres. The public was fascinated by the two Freeformer exhibits, interactive stations and functional components and chose Arburg as one of the three (…)
Nanoscribe’s new Photonic Professional GT2 3D printers change the way to produce micro-optical components. This additive manufacturing technology enables the fabrication of ultra-precise micro-optics as polymer masters for serial production, which are needed, for instance, in mobile or augmented reality devices, for sophisticated sensors or advanced solutions in healthcare and automotive industry. At the upcoming SPIE Photonics West, the leading trade fair in optics and photonics, (…)
To demonstrate the future of additive manufacturing (AM), Marc Saunders, Director of Global Solutions Centres at engineering technologies company Renishaw, is presenting at Formnext 2018, Messe Frankfurt, Germany. On Tuesday 13th November on the ‘TCT introducing’ stage from 11.30am, Saunders will explain how to radically improve productivity with multi-laser systems, without compromising on product quality. The talk will complement the exhibition of Renishaw’s latest AM system, the (…)
Growing demands on high-speed data communication, unmanned aerial vehicles and portable medical devices are attracting industries to new manufacturing methods like, for example, Nanoscribe’s direct laser writing technology. Currently, the production of photonic circuits and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) needed for these applications requires different manufacturing methods and multiple process steps for bringing together various components on one microchip. Snapshot of the 3D (…)
On June 27th, 2018, Professor Chris Sutcliffe, Director of Research and Development (R&D) at Renishaw’s Additive Manufacturing Products Division (AMPD) was awarded a prestigious Silver Medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE). The award recognises his role in driving the development of metal 3D printed implants for use in human and veterinary surgery. The RAE Silver Medal is awarded to recognise an outstanding personal contribution to British engineering, which has resulted in (…)
Global engineering technologies company, Renishaw is contributing its additive manufacturing (AM) specialist knowledge to European machine tool trade association, CECIMO. The trade body represents national associations of machine tool builders across 15 European countries. Following the appointment of senior manager, Stewart Lane, to the CECIMO board in 2015, the company has contributed and shared its specialist additive manufacturing (AM) knowledge and expertise as well as attended events (…)
