Global engineering technologies company Renishaw has helped bring a national treasure back to Gloucester. Using original 1938 drawings, the company worked with the Jet Age Museum to additively manufacture (3D print) four sets of unusual cockpit brackets for a Hawker Typhoon aircraft, built almost exclusively in the UK city during the 1940s. Using original drawings from 1938, Renishaw’s engineers modelled each bracket from scratch using a computer-aided design (CAD) system. After (…)

Tombstone Module: One Of 50 Edgecam Updates
The new 2017 release of Edgecam introduces a Tombstone module for assembling pre-existing parts on a defined mounting device. A simple dialog window enables users to add pre-machined part files, specifying the positions they are to be mounted on a tombstone or other multi-component work-holding device. Once they are assembled, Edgecam automatically merges and rationalises all machining sequences by tool or index position and optimising the NC output into sub-routines. Edgecam Brand Manager (…)

Flexible Lithium-ion rechargeable battery for smartcards, wearables and IoT devices
Panasonic presents innovative flexible batteries that withstand bending and twisting with no loss of function. At electronica 2016 Panasonic will present innovative, highly flexible Lithium-ion batteries: they can withstand repeated bending with a radius of 25 mm or twisting with a maximum angle of 25 degrees, with no loss of function. The batteries are extremely thin with a height of only 0.55 millimetres, which makes them ideal for use in smartcards and wearable devices. The (…)

In high demand: Participation documents for GrindTec 2018 already available in November 2016 / Exhibition areas in Augsburg are extended
The trend is clear: increasing numbers of GrindTec exhibitors, but also new companies, are showing great interest in making sure of their participation at the world’s leading platform for grinding technology very early on. Numerous companies had contacted the project management for this reason in recent weeks and months. Because of this, the GrindTec event organizer AFAG has decided to send out the participation documents this November. Parallel to this they will also be offered on the (…)

Hygienic ball valves of stainless steel: Eisele presents the best of two worlds in one solution
Connectors and shut-off valves for compressed air, gases and liquids in the food processing industry have to be easy to flush and clean. Eisele presents an optimal solution for these requirements with a robust and simple design. Eisele now offers hygienic ball valves of stainless steel. The time-proven ball valves were originally developed for use in painting stations and are therefore completely free of dead zones, easy to clean and therefore also ideal for hygiene applications in the (…)

80 Years of Blaser Swisslube
"Serving comes before earning" - This is the customer-focused corporate value under which the Swiss lubricant manufacturer Blaser Swisslube is celebrating its 80th company anniversary. It all started back in 1936 with "Blaha-Glanz" - a shoe polish. Since then, the company has grown from a small regional business into a global player. In the company’s own Technology Centre, the focus is squarely on research and development. This focus has resulted in a breakthrough being achieved in a (…)

CuFlon Processing with the ProtoLaser R: Ultrashort-pulse prototyping laser for challenging high-frequency applications
For RF applications, the shorter the wavelength, the greater the effect of geometric deviations on the board. The LPKF ProtoLaser R uses an ultrashort-pulse laser for particularly precise and gentle processing. “CuFlon” is the name of the high-performance base material offered by US company Polyflon for use in challenging RF applications. The dielectric material is a pure PTFE; the coating is produced in a separate process with precise coating thickness control. This combination yields (…)

Trade fair for professional 3D printing in Switzerland: All expectations exceeded
The first trade fair for additive manufacturing in Switzerland demonstrated very clearly what can be achieved through additive manufacturing today and enabled a unique transfer of knowledge. Both exhibitors and visitors confirmed a convincing performance. "We were able to pick up on a trend with the AM Expo", explains René Ziswiler, Trade Fair Director at the AM Expo. The pleasingly large number of visitors and the exclusively positive feedback from exhibitors demonstrate that the AM (…)

Renishaw unveils the new XM-60 multi-axis calibrator
Renishaw, the world-leading metrology specialist, exhibited its new XM-60 multi-axis calibrator at IMTS 2016, Chicago, USA and AMB 2016, Stuttgart, Germany. The XM-60 is capable of measuring all six degrees of freedom from a single set-up, in any orientation for linear axes. It offers significant improvement in simplicity and time saving over conventional laser measurement techniques. As demands on component tolerances increase, manufacturers are now required to consider all error sources (…)
